Week 5

In the final week of the project, we combined all components and tested the performance of the generator, during the soldering part, we faced big problem of the copper slides with wires. Which was hard to combined tightly and we spent a lot of time to try different soldering methods. Meanwhile, there are also some flaws with the components in assemble technique.

After checking with our tutor, we made changes in the design as follow.

Week 4

In week 4, we used Solidworks to render the final design of 1J Marx generator.

We finished Pspice simulation the schematic is as follows:
The simulation result is as follows:

The output is 33.7V when input into the 5-stage Marx generator a 7kv DC supply. Theoretically, the efficiency is 33.5/(5*7)=95.7%.

Week 3

In week 3, we finished the first draft of dissertation and revised related problems concerning Pspice.

In Pspice simulation, we planned to use switch with t_close parameter to simulate spark gap. However, the simulation result is different when using wire to represent the spark gap has fired and setting t_close to be zero.

Week 2

This week we begin to design our circuit and components.

However, there was something wrong with our order, we didn't get our materials in time, so we have to do the theory part.

Firstly, we designed the whole circuit as well as the components (made by Huawen Xing and Wenjun You).

Secondly, we designed a Pspice simulation circuit to simulate the output voltage (made by Tianxiang Wang) but there was something wrong with the circuit so hopefully it will be solved in next week.

Then, we used Solidworks to draw the one-level circuit (made by Yicheng Yang).

If the material can be gotten in next week, we can move to our next step.

Week 1

This is the beginning week of the project, and our project is to build a 'Marx Generator', which works under a high voltage (about 7000V in this project).

We met together and got familiar with each other. In addition, we met our tutor as well.

After that, the role that everyone will play is assigned. Huawen Xing, as the designer, as well as Wenjun You, will focus on the general theory about Marx Generator. They two will also design the size of our components. At the same time, Tianxiang Wang will take charge of the Pspice simulation and Yicheng Yang will do the Solidworks job. They two will also weld the circuit.

After that, we learned the general theory about Marx Generator together in order to understand what we will do in the next few weeks.
